European Wrestling Championship 2024

The city of Loutraki is deeply honored to host two European Wrestling Championships.

Loutraki is an ideal destination for both tourism and training programs and sports events throughout the year. Its state-of-the-art sports facilities cater to both professional and amateur athletes, providing ideal climate conditions for sports preparation and events. The city has successfully hosted numerous major international, European, and Mediterranean championships and tournaments.

Greece, the cradle of sports and the Olympic ideal, where the sport of wrestling was born, will host for the first time the U15 EUROPEAN GRAPPLING CHAMPIONSHIP 2024 (GP/GP Gi), as well as the U15 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024 (GR/FS/WW).

From May 15 to May 18 2024, at the U15 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2024 (GR/FS/WW), over 700 young wrestlers from more than 35 countries will gather in Loutraki, the most popular sports destination in the Region of Peloponnese.

Earlier, on May 11 and 12 2024, the U15 EUROPEAN GRAPPLING CHAMPIONSHIP 2024 (GP/GP Gi) will take place with more than 150 athletes from 35 countries.

In this 4-day event, young male and female athletes under the age of 15 in Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling, will have the opportunity to compete for distinction, to build bonds of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation, while also to gain unique memories.

Both championships are being organized by the Hellenic Wrestling Federation, in cooperation with the International Wrestling Federation.

Support is provided by the Municipality of Loutraki-Perachora-Agioi Theodoroi, while the implementing agency is SPORTCAMP.

The Age Categories of the U15 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2024 (GR/FS/WW) are athletes U15 (under 15 years old) according to the regulations of the International Wrestling Federation.

The Event Categories are the following:

• Boys U15 & Women GR/FS/WW

 

Regarding the U15 EUROPEAN GRAPPLING CHAMPIONSHIP 2024 (GP/GP Gi), the age categories are U15 (under 15) according to the regulations of the International Wrestling Federation.

The Event Categories are as follows:

• Grappling & Grappling Gi (GP/GP Gi)

Grappling is a style of wrestling that combines techniques from various sports such as freestyle wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Luta Livre Brasileira, Catch Wrestling, Judo, Sambo, and the goal of the sport is to take down and control the opponent. Grappling, among all modern wrestling styles, is the closest to the ancient Greek wrestling or Pale, which was practiced in the ancient Olympic Games. Grappling is divided into 2 styles: Grappling, where athletes wear shorts and a compression shirt called a rashguard, and Grappling Gi, where athletes wear a kimono.

All matches will be held at the Municipal Indoor Hall G. Galanopoulos, at the 3rd kilometer of the National Road of Isthmos-Loutraki, while athletes will be accommodated in various hotels of the city and at the Sportcamp facilities.
