The U17 World Wrestling Championships wrapped up with success and heartfelt emotion at the Olympic Indoor Hall of Ano Liosia, where it was held from July 28 to August 3. For an entire week, Athens was at the heart of the global wrestling scene, welcoming over 1,000 athletes, coaches, and team officials from around the world—a record turnout for the event.
Organized by the Hellenic Wrestling Federation under the auspices of the Region of Attica, the championship was also strongly supported by SPORTCAMP, whose long-standing expertise in hosting major international sports events proved invaluable.
Greece fielded a full team, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of wrestlers. And that investment paid off:
Two rising Greek stars made it to the podium. Dimitris Soulis claimed the silver medal in the 71kg Greco-Roman category, showing impressive skill and consistency throughout the competition. Maria Louiza Gika delivered an equally outstanding performance, earning the bronze medal in the 46kg women’s category and confirming her status as a promising young talent.
Congratulations go out to all the athletes who took part, as well as to everyone involved in the smooth and successful organization of the U17 World Wrestling Championships.
